Home Garden Diary First Steps For No Dig on a New Area

First Steps For No Dig on a New Area

Starting no dig and planning on new land. It’s less than two months since I bought this acre / 4000sqm of pasture and weeds, and I think out loud with some possibilities of what I may do.

Meanwhile we continue to grow vegetables for sale on the existing quarter acre of no dig beds, which you see in the background of this thumbnail photograph.

For the apple trees I mention, I have already cut them down and we shall use a stump grinder – not a digger – to prevent any regrowth. One of the old apple trees remains, the one which has lots of mistletoe growing.

Filmed and edited by Edward Dowding at Homeacres 28th February 2021.

For more about cleaning soil of weeds by mulching, without any soil disturbance, see this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhKxC7oZQuo.

I have written an online course about this and other easy aspects of no dig https://charlesdowding.co.uk/product/online-course-1-no-dig-gardening/.
We have published it in book form https://charlesdowding.co.uk/product/charles-dowdings-no-dig-gardening-course-1-signed/
